  • S01E01 Manchester: BBC Philharmonic plays Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite

    Renowned British conductor Nicholas Collon presents a special concert by the BBC Philharmonic from Aviva Studios, Manchester. Under the baton of Ben Gernon, the music spans the centuries – from Tchaikovsky’s ever-popular Swan Lake to John Adams’s exhilarating Short Ride in a Fast Machine. It is also a showcase for the best of British music, featuring Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on Greensleeves, Thomas Adès’s ballet score Dante and the UK premiere of PALETTE, by Anna Clyne.

  • S01E02 Cologne: WDR Symphony Orchestra plays Stravinsky's Petrushka

    Celebrating great music-making across Europe, this is a special concert from the Philharmonic Hall in Cologne. Presented by renowned British conductor Nicholas Collon. The WDR Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Marie Jacquot, perform Stravinsky’s ballet score Petrushka. They also play The Enchanted Lake, a magical miniature by Stravinsky's teacher, Lyadov.

  • S01E03 Lisbon: Gulbenkian Orchestra plays Ravel's La Valse

    Celebrating great music making across Europe, this is a special concert from the Grand Auditorium of the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, also featuring music by Debussy and Smetana. The Gulbenkian Orchestra, under the baton of Aziz Shokakimov, perform two French masterworks - Ravel’s La Valse and Debussy’s evocative portrait of the sea, La Mer - and Smetana’s Vltava, an impression of the mighty Czech river.

  • S01E04 Helsinki: Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra plays Sibelius's Finlandia

    Celebrating great music-making across Europe, this is a special concert celebrating Finland’s Independence Day from the Music Hall in Helsinki. Throughout the series, renowned British conductor Nicholas Collon takes us on a tour of Manchester, Cologne, Lisbon and Helsinki to hear the excellence and versatility of orchestras that regularly work with European broadcasters. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of its principal conductor Nicholas Collon, perform an all-Finnish concert, including music by Saariaho, Kalmi and Sibelius.
