Die „Antonov 124“ ist eines der größten Frachtflugzeuge der Welt. Der russische Gigant hat eine Flügelspannweite von über 70 Metern und wurde Ende der 70er Jahre entwickelt, um damit Militärfahrzeuge zu transportieren. Aber auch nach Ende des Kalten Krieges gibt es reichlich Arbeit, denn kaum ein Flugzeug weltweit tut sich mit riesigen Lasten so leicht. Die Nase des Flugzeugs wird beim Ladevorgang hydraulisch abgesenkt, im Innenraum finden dann bis zu 42 Fahrzeuge Platz. Zum Abheben braucht die Antonov allerdings jede Menge Anlauf – die Startbahn muss mindestens 2700 Meter lang sein.
