The Takapuna goes to Ambon, the Clove Island of Ternate and Makassar, before sailing on to Bali, where Pamela meets another researcher who has found the fictitious island of Carabatoo, Salty Sam's last known location. There they find an old man who has family stories about a shipwreck, pirates and a dodgy Rajah. So Pamela heads off to the Straits of Alis, where Salty Sam disappeared over 200 years ago.
