Derek Martin has been one of the most authentic working class voices in British film and television since the 1960s. He appeared in many television series as an extra, including (of course) Doctor Who, working with both William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton, before moving into speaking parts while also being offered a job as a stuntman with HAVOC by Derek Ware. Following an injury on Elizabeth R in 1971, Derek concentrated more on his acting and was cast in an amazing number of programmes, including Paul Temple, Upstairs Downstairs, Survivors, Law and Order, The Chinese Detective, The Sweeney, Angels, Little Britain, Private Schultz, Hart to Hart, Eastenders … the list is endless! During this time, he had his only speaking part in Doctor Who as Security Guard David Mitchell in Image of the Fendahl. His most notable film appearance was as James Cagney's aide in Milos Forman's epic film Ragtime (1981).
