Episode 9

PROGRAMME ON THE GAA This evening we focus on the growth and popularity of our Gaelic Games, not just here in Ireland but in particular in other parts of the world. The organisation has been in existence for 132 years and over that time the GAA has grown from humble beginnings way back in 1884 to what it is today, an organisation which has clubs all over Ireland and now in many parts of the world where Irish communities have established. We travel to Austin Texas to meet one such community & we hear about the RTE GAAGO App which is only in existence a few years but already GAA matches are being viewed in 180 countries. TEXAS/REPORT MARTY MORRISSEY Marty Morrissey recently got to experience the significance of the GAA for the Irish community of Austin Texas. He travelled with the GAA GPA All Stars Hurling Teams to the Lone Star State and the trip turned out to be much more than an exhibition of Hurling for the local Texans but a great sense of occasion and pride for the Irish who now call Austin their home.
