Truly, can there be anything spookier this season than attempting to best the bullet-sponge baddies of Fester's Quest without the use of a rapid-fire controller? Sunsoft put together a truly strange NES game here, one that combined a largely forgotten television sitcom with the lesser half of an 8-bit hit, all graced with one of the most unforgiving difficulty levels and brutal final bosses ever seen on a console notorious for ridiculous hard games. Fester's Quest! It's not a classic, but it's certainly worth exploring as an example of the freewheeling, anything-goes spirit of the Peak NES era. Note that I unapologetically used cheats and an NES Advantage while recording footage for this game after my hard drive corrupted an hour of footage I had initially captured through grueling fair play.
