Sarya Dogan

A fierce YPJ officer. Sarya, the daughter of Kurdish immigrants, was raised in Paris. At the age of 16, Sarya’s mother passed away, and her father decided to return to Kurdistan. All at once, the girl was taken away from her familiar environment and cast into a traditional, tribal society. As a Kurdish woman, her way of expressing herself, achieving independence and self-realization, was to join the YPJ. As a Kurdish soldier, she was once again considered equal to her male counterparts.
