The documentary focuses on three couples living on benefits. They include Karen and Paul who once ran a launderette, but after losing their business they now struggle to get by on benefits. Yvonne and David are getting married and planning to make it the best day ever - despite only being paid in a year the same amount as the cost of the average UK wedding. Things are even more bleak for Brian and Rachel, however, as despite being together for 10 years, they cannot afford to move in together.
