Calcium Carbide & Acetylene (reaction only)

Calcium Carbide and Acetylene - part of our "Berzelius Day" uploading 24 videos in 24 hours. Full video containing this reaction at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQSLpuVZK9Y NOTE FROM THE PROFESSOR: Calcium carbide reacts with water to form acetylene (also known as ethyne) and Calcium hydroxide. The fact that the water is present as ice doesn't matter. A combination of the heat of the reaction and the presence of salts causes the ice to melt and the reaction involves liquid water.
