Broadcast live on May 9, 1998, from an outdoor setup at Chelsea Piers in New York City, WCW and MTV's Ultimate Video Bash was a cross-promotional television special where WCW superstars represented popular music videos in a fan-voted tournament. Viewers called a 1-900 number to advance their favorite acts, with wrestlers like Diamond Dallas Page and Raven acting as advocates for artists such as Van Halen and Hole. Originally scheduled as a three-hour event, a severe rainstorm left the unsheltered ring dangerously slick and chased away most of the live crowd. Due to the unsafe conditions, only a single 90-second match between Public Enemy and High Voltage actually took place. The broadcast was hastily reduced to two hours of impromptu promos and interview segments, ultimately concluding with Diamond Dallas Page being awarded the MTV Championship belt.
