When 'talkies' came into existence he traveled to the US and was paired with opera singer/actress Jeanette MacDonald to make The Love Parade (1929), together, they made three more films with the most successful being Love Me Tonight (1932). Returning to Europe in the late 1930's he made several more films before WWII interrupted his career.
