On 5 August 1985, Jiang Zemin, then mayor of Shanghai, presided over the unveiling ceremony of the double statue of Marx and Engels. More than a decade later, as the core of the third generation of the Party's central collective leadership, Jiang Zemin breathed new life into the doctrine founded by these two mentors, advanced the Sinicization of Marxism, and led an ancient nation in composing a magnificent song of the era on its march toward great rejuvenation.
