Before prom, Phil and Tara perform a duet for his parents while a gravely concerned Ruth silently prays for God to protect her son. After Phil and Tara leave, Ruth insists to Ted that she's feeling less afraid. Although Ted is skeptical of Nick's promise to keep their secret, Ruth says they have no choice but to trust him. Mona and Nick prepare to chaperone the prom. Nick talks with delight about being able to watch his son and remember his own young self twenty years ago. Mona cautions him to stop thinking about Phil because his love for the boy is apparent in his eyes and expressions.
