How to isolate Vanillin from Artificial Vanilla Extract

In this video, vanillin is isolated from artificial vanilla extract. The solvent used is dichloromethane, but it is likely better to use diethyl ether as it does not form an emulsion. I used dichloromethane because it is easier to obtain for most people. It is important to use artificial vanilla and not real vanilla extract. The real vanilla extract contains many more compounds. The amount of vanillin in commercially available extracts is widely variable and usually ranges between 1g-4g per 50
